Success in Sarasota
Here are some fun attendance facts concerning the O’s inaugural
season in Sarasota…
Monday’s Yankee-Orioles crowd at Ed Smith Stadium of 8,208
was the largest in stadium history.
The Orioles have drawn 94,405 fans for 14 home games, an
average of 6,743 per game. In contrast, the Reds drew 77,758 in 15 home games
last season at Ed Smith Stadium. With today’s game, Baltimore expects to cross
the 100,000 barrier, which would be the first time since 1994.
Wednesday marked the seventh sellout this spring
“This has been a breath of fresh air and a tremendous
experience having Spring Training here in Sarasota,” manager Dave Trembley
said prior to Saturday’s game. “What a first-year welcome we got. You
couldn’t ask for anything better. I was told today that within a few days after
we leave, the building permits have been approved and construction is going to
start. It’s just going to be such a great place.”
The city of Sarasota will put around $30 million into
renovations at the complex, with the finished product expected to set the
standard in Spring Training stadiums.
