Pie exits Yanks game
TAMPA, Fla. — Outfielder Felix Pie exited the Orioles-Yankees game on Friday
afternoon after being struck by a pitch from closer Mariano Rivera above his right ankle.
With two outs in the sixth inning, Pie immediately fell to
the ground after being hit and limped off the field with the help of some of
the team’s training stuff. He was later ruled to have a lower right leg
contusion and was scheduled to get X-rays in Sarasota later on Friday. Pie was
replaced by pinch runner Matt Angle, and manager Dave Trembley said following the game that he would be very surprised if the X-rays came back as anything but negative.
Projected to be the team’s Opening Day left fielder, Pie
entered Friday’s game batting .343 with two homers and four RBIs. He went
0-for-2 in his first two at-bats Friday.
