More Matt (Wieters, that is)

Matt Wieters caught Kevin Millwood for five innings today and manager Dave Trembley told reporters in Fort
Myers he’ll also be behind the plate tomorrow, batting cleanup, and serve as
the DH on Thursday.

Trembley noted that he will also begin taking Wieters deeper
into games, scheduling him for seven innings tomorrow and back-to-back games
Saturday and Sunday. He could be allowed to catch all nine innings on Sunday.

Sunday would be Millwood’s next start, which is a bonus for
Wieters, who caught the veteran right-hander for the first time in Tuesday’s
intrasquad game.

Wieters said he had previously caught a few bullpen sessions
with Millwood, but in the games “he’s definitely lively”.

So, as positive as Millwood says the outing was for him, it
might have been just as important for Wieters.

 “Today I was able to
get that first step of how he wants to pitch in the game,” Wieters said.

“I want to get him a few more times before spring gets going
so we can get on the same page quicker.”

The increased playing time should help Wieters settle in at
the plate as well. He’s  1-for-13 in six
spring games, with his lone hit coming March 8 versus the Twins.
