No Reimold…

SARASOTA, Fla. –Nolan Reimold wasn’t in Wednesday’s starting lineup, and Orioles manager Dave Trembley wasn’t sure when Reimold would make his Grapefruit League debut.

“The fields have been very wet, it’s been very cold.,” Trembley said prior to Wednesday’s Spring Training opener against Tampa Bay. “Nolan knows that. He’s perfectly healthy but we’re going to take our time with him seeing that it’s March 3, 4 and 5.”

Reimold had successful surgery to repair a partial tear of his left Achilles tendon on September 23, correcting an ailment that had bothered him all last season. Projected to be the Orioles starting left fielder -as part of a platoon with Felix Pie — Reimold arrived at Orioles camp this spring with no restrictions and has been participating fully in all baseball-related activities.

“It is [still sore] but it’s an expected soreness,” Reimold said of the tendon. “So, there’s nothing to be alarmed about. Just work my way into it. I’ll be fine.”

Reimold said he had no problem with the Orioles preference to be cautious, and will work out with the rest of the non-game participants on Wednesday. He played in the team’s intrasquad game on Monday and although he appeared to be running fairly hard, Reimold isn’t quite full-throttle yet.

“I ran down [the first base line], but I try not to go full full speed, until I don’t have any pain,” he said.

Trembley said Reimold might get in the games on Friday or Saturday, but a lot of that decision will depend on the weather, which has been unusually harsh for Florida.

” Friday [it] is going to be 45 degrees out there, probably wouldn’t be in his best interest or our best interest to [play Reimold],” Trembley said. “But we’ll see.”

After a torrid start at Triple-A Norfolk, Reimold made good use of his call-up to Baltimore. In his first 104 Major League games, he batted .279 with 15 home runs and 45 RBIs.
