Let's Play Ball…

Early weather reports are mostly sunny for Wednesday, which means I might finally get some color.

Here’s some info for those of you who plan on attending the Orioles first game at Ed Smith Stadium. For those of you who aren’t I’ve got you covered with pics and updates on this blog and Twitter. Sorry, I can’t send the weather with you. But I will let you know how the pretzels are at this place, as Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune and I continue our quest to eat one pretzel per game at every ballpark imaginable.

Anyways, here’s some need-to-know info about today’s game, which will feature Jeremy Guthrie against James Shields…

  • The entire ballpark will open at 11:00 a.m. for fans to come early and enjoy batting practice and pre-game preparations.
  • Tickets are still available by visiting http://www.orioles.com, by calling (888) 329-3365 or by visiting the Ed Smith Stadium box office.
  • All five Sarasota County Commissioners – Joe Barbetta, Carolyn Mason, Nora Patterson, Shannon Staub and Jon Thaxton – will be present at tomorrow’s game and will throw out the ceremonial first pitches to Orioles players prior to the game.
  • The Orioles have brought a Maryland staple with them to Florida. In addition to the usual ballpark fare, fans in attendance can enjoy a Phillips Seafood Maryland crab cake while watching the games at Ed Smith Stadium.
